# Why create characters?

Characters are the actors of your narrative. By creating them on the platform, you can easily reuse them in your steps and events, and allow readers to learn more about them as the story unfolds.

Character sheets

Creating detailed character sheets helps you maintain character consistency throughout the story, and allows readers to view their traits at any time.

  • Distinguishing feature — Scar, tattoo, verbal tic...
  • Relationships — Connections with other characters
  • Secrets — Hidden information revealed progressively
Progressive revelation

You can choose not to reveal all of a character's information from the start. Some fields can be unlocked as the story progresses through steps.

# Using characters

Once created, your characters can be used in several ways:

  1. In events — As sender of emails or messages
  2. In steps — To unlock information about a character
  3. Viewing — The reader can view the character sheets of encountered characters

# Creation tips

  • Give them flaws — Perfect characters are boring
  • Create clear motivations — What does this character want?
  • Think about relationships — How do they interact with others?
  • Be consistent — The character must act according to their personality
  • Avoid cliches — Or subvert them cleverly
