# What is an event?

Events are messages or notifications sent to the reader outside the main narrative flow. They allow you to break the fourth wall and create a truly immersive experience.

Immersion first

Imagine receiving an email from a character in your story, or a chat message from an adventure companion. Events transform passive reading into an interactive experience.

# Event types

Send a fictional email to the reader, as if it came from a character in the story.

  • Sender — The character sending the email
  • Subject — The email subject line
  • Content — The message body with formatting
Use case

Perfect for investigation stories, spy thrillers, or any scenario where characters communicate remotely.

# Create an event

1

Access the events list

In your story's side menu, click on "Events".

2

Create a new event

Click the "Add an event" button at the top right.

3

Choose the type

Select Email or Chat Message according to your needs.

4

Write the content

Use the rich editor to format your message realistically.

5

Configure the recipient

Choose whether the event is addressed to the current player or all players.

# Link an event to a step

For an event to be triggered, you must link it to a step in your story:

  1. Open the editor for the relevant step
  2. In the "Events" section, click "Choose events"
  3. Select the events to trigger
  4. Save the step
Important timing

The event is triggered when the reader reaches the step. For emails, you can configure a delay if you want it to arrive later.

# Best practices

  • Stay consistent — The event's tone should match the sender character
  • Use events sparingly — Too many notifications can become intrusive
  • Add value — Each event should advance the story or reveal information
  • Use variables — Personalize content with the reader's name
